YOUTH WORK-MISSION 2012
United Methodist Church of Berea teamed up with Youthworks this year for our trip to St. Paul, MN. Nineteen youth and eight adults made the two-day trip to Minnesota in three vans. The group spent the first night at First United Methodist Church in Madison, WI. We toured the surrounding neighborhood, including walking to the state capital building, which was a block from the church.
Once in St. Paul Immanuel Lutheran Church became our new home. There are four other churches living and working with UMCB this week - two from North Dakota, one from Wisconsin and one from right down the street in Minneapolis.
All participants were divided into six work groups for the week. Some groups are feeding the less fortunate, others are staffing Vacation Bible School, some are doing yard work for the elderly still others are visiting patients in nursing homes.
Groups from the various churches are getting to know each other during mission outings and during our evening activities. Monday night we toured St. Paul Cathedral, Tuesday we visited local caves that have served as a speak easy, various night clubs, a location to grow Lehman Farms mushrooms and now host private functions. Wednesday we are doing a community cook out and visiting a break dancing competition.
Everyone is finding the trip rewarding and are forming new friendships.
We will visit The Mall of America on Friday on our way back east before spending the night in South Bend, IN. Come meet us in the UMCB parking lot between 3-4pm on Saturday.
